Canadians Prefer Prince William over Prince Charles as Next Monarch

A new poll conducted by Abacus Data for the Huffington Post Canada found that 56% of Canadians believe Prince William should succeed Queen Elizabeth II while 26% prefer Prince Charles.

The survey also found that Canadians are generally split on whether Canada should continue to have the British Monarch as its head of state. Thirty-four percent (34%) either strongly or somewhat support continuing with the British monarch while 39% said they wither strongly or somewhat opposed.  Twenty-six percent (26%) were indifferent and neither supported nor opposed the monarchy continuing.

Methodology From June 23rd to June 24th, 2011, Abacus Data Inc. conducted an online survey among 1,005 randomly selected Canadian adults from an online panel of over 150,000 Canadians. The margin of error—which measures sampling variability—is  comparable to +/- 3.2%, 19 times out of 20. Results of the survey were statistically weighted by gender, age, region, education, and past federal vote using census data from Statistics Canada and by past vote using Elections Canada results from the 2008 General Election. Totals may not add up to 100 due to rounding.
